Think about it. Big, gas guzzling, body-on-frame, V8, column shifters, plush interiors, borderline obsessive use of chrome.
Now we just need a return of ridiculously plush cloth seats.
LUXURY.

Cloth seats>Leather seats.

Yep. Sounds about right to me.

I mean they’re typically used for the same purposes.

Yep. Except that in a strange fluke my *59* land yacht is a unibody and has- not plush - but damask on the seats. Other than that, though...

Some trucks for sure. My new truck has an direct-injected 2.7L twin turbo V6, console shifter, all aluminum body, gets 24 mpg on my mixed commute while doing 0-60 in 6.1 seconds.
Not bad for the best selling variant of the best selling full-size truck on the market.

new no, they have been for over 20 years.

They need more fins.
Or more Adam West apparently...

I still think 4-door trucks are weird.

I miss 80's seats. They were so good.

Column shifters are so old fashioned

Wouldn’t giant BOF SUV’s be more land yacht-ish than a pickup?
![]() 11/03/2016 at 12:12 |

Good point. Those are all still basically trucks though, just without beds.
![]() 11/03/2016 at 12:17 |

I accept this premise.
![]() 11/03/2016 at 12:17 |

Nope. Behind-the-seat space on the back end as seen in an SUV is more akin to a land yacht cousin *wagon* than a land yacht sedan, which is the standard form. The bed is more akin to a giant trunk, and having passenger space -and only passenger space - in the main cabin allows for maximizing that space, better heating/cooling, and isolating of whatever you *have to* carry in the trunk from the Zone Of Comfort. Add the sight lines and visibility of things from inside being more sedan-like in a pickup than a BOF SUV, and the similarity is much more complete.

OK those are very fair points.
Confirmed after debating.

After RamblinRover’s comment he’s right, trucks are definitely more land yacht-ish than BOF SUV’s.

Once you’ve acceded that you might be carrying six or seven people instead of four to five in luxury, you’ve given up luxury as the guiding premise of the vehicle. Particularly if the “extras” have a harder time getting in -
unacceptable.

My guests have difficulty entering the vehicle? Sounds like a problem for the poors.

I added another point. What might be one of the most significant.
![]() 11/03/2016 at 12:22 |

Pretty much, the guests either need to be a few choice people riding with me or get their own damn yacht. Cramming people in the back of M’Lord’s car is
outre.

I can practically smell that interior.

My Ram 1500's cloth seats are very comfortable on long drives.

Mopar needs to bring back pushbuttons.

I have to agree. Leather seats look and feel higher end but cloth is just more comfy. And less hot in the summer and less cold in the winter

I just don’t understand how so many people afford these.. Even the cheapest crew cab F-150 is pushing 40 grand. Buy a 10 year old one for 10 grand and get most of the capability and you can still get an entry level luxury car with what’s left.

This. THANK you.
And Suburbans and their kind are the wagon variant.

While i do agree that they are the new land yachts, apparently you dont know what gas guzzling means. Come back to me when your in the single digits. Granted these do have the cylinder cut off like the V8-6-4 Caddys of old but they actually work and can get upwards of 25 mpg.

I was peeping things at a local Chevy dealer and stumbled upon a $45,000 SINGLE CAB Silverado. Granted it had fancy wheels and it was a 4x4, but it still rocked cloth. I couldn’t believe the price.

Eh I think modern cars have enough buttons as it is.
